Competition Mindset Reflection

Throughout my time competing and coaching, I've had my fair share of highs and lows. I often find the conversation in the world of competition surrounding mental preparation and mindset to be difficult to truly tune into at a fundamental internal level. That being said, I would like to share some personal insights I've had this year while both coaching and competing.
Some of my personal guiding thoughts and intentions in the lead-up to competition:
I need to be open to this experience teaching me valuable life skills. Not just the competition itself but everything surrounding it.
I can’t let the fearful part of my mind try to protect me from the potential of not just winning but also growing from a competition experience.
I am allowed to want to win and be willing to learn. Both things can coexist.
Three journal exercises for pre-competition prep:
What do I stand to gain from showing up fully?
In what ways might this experience help
me confront parts of myself I usually avoid?
What do I want to remember about how I carried myself, regardless of outcome?
Three journal exercises for post-competition debrief:
What surprised me about this experience?
What were the most alive moments of the day? When did I feel most myself?
What would I like to do differently next time and how can I begin practicing that now?
I would love to see everyone's reflections and suggestions on this topic. Feel free to email : )
